Project Case History

Accelerated Enzyme Diesel Bioremedations Along Roadways

Diesel Fuel Transportation Accidents

Project Costs: 50% of Soil Extraction, Disposal & Backfill costs

Yellow Freight Transportation, Adairsville, Georgia:

A tractor trailer skidded off the road and flipped over destroying 150 feet of trees and rupturing both saddle fuel tanks. 450 feet (180 cy) of Department of Transportation Right-of-Way was contaminated with diesel fuel. An inclined bioremediation bed was constructed by placing the contaminated soils from the swale on a 12 inch lift on the bank. Local soils were plastic clays (Piedmont CLAYS). Preliminary soil conditioning was accomplished using a track excavator. Further soil conditioning was performed employing a rotar tiller.

Five HC-2000 applications were applied at one week intervals with concurrent tilling. Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon concentrations were reduced from 4,183 ppm to less than 250 ppm in five weeks.

R. L. Transfer, Warner Robbins, Georgia

A tractor trailer ruptured both fuel tanks and contaminated 150 feet (80 cy) of ROW. Soil on the bank and swale was a sandy CLAY. Soil conditioning was accomplished by tilling the site. Five weekly applications of HC-2000 with tilling were performed. TPH concentrations were reduced from 3,100 ppm to less than 250 ppm in five weeks. Final average concentrations were less than 128 ppm.
