Project Case History
Accelerated Bioremediation of Oilfield & Tar Seeps
For Housing Development
Client: Former Sante Fe Energy Resources Property Project Location: Northern Orange County, California
One of the oldest oil field production sites in California was abandoned and oil production wastes and tar seeps required cleanup prior to construction of 600 acre upscale residential development in Northern Orange County, California.
A five-acre pilot test was conducted using HC-2000 as a bioremediation accelerant. Heavy crudes, tar seeps, oil wastes and oilfield production waste (with petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations ranging from 70,000 to 80,000 ppm - C28+) were degraded below 500 ppm in only 9 weeks. Lighter petroleum hydrocarbons (shorter chain< C28) were completely destroyed.
Bioremediation beds were constructed and the waste material was disked with enzymes applied on a weekly basis and water added on a frequency to maintain soil moistures above 40% of the field holding capacity.
The full-scale site remediation will be implemented during the site preparation/grading phase of this project. |
