Project Case History

Accelerated Enzyme Bioremediation at Beverage Facility LUST Site
Client: Better Brands

Project Location: Atlanta, Georgia

Date: 1999

Project Description:

Remtech designed and installed an enzyme enhanced insitu native microbial bioremediation system to cleanup a leaking underground storage tank site. The aerial solution phase petroleum hydrocarbon "footprint" of this site is approximately 0.5 acres.

Seven (7) existing recovery wells were converted into enzyme injection/biosparge wells. Remtech’s HC-2000 was employed over a six (6) month period to treat total petroleum hydrocarbons and BTEX (benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene) from a gasoline release.

HC-2000 is a propriety formulation of enzymes, micro-nutrients, and biodegradable wetting agents which catalyze or speed up the petroleum hydrocarbon bioremediation processes in soil, groundwater, and railroad ballast. HC-2000 works in three (3) ways – (1) direct enzyme breakdown of contaminates, (2) acceleration of native microbial waste digestion, and (3) desorption of contaminants from soil.

Groundwater BTEX concentrations were reduced by over 94% in the heart of the groundwater plume during a six (6) month treatment period. TPH groundwater concentrations were reduced by over 96% during the same period.

Groundwater BTEX Reduced by 94%+

Groundwater TPH Reduced by 96%+
